Chicago Winter 07 part II

so it started snowing last night here in Chicago...so i decided to wake up a bit early and go out and take some pictures figuring thats one thing i havent done since coming here...i woke up to, most things covered in white, cold breeze, a wall filled with graffiti, and even met a friend a long the way...

stepped outside to the back and noticed snow...so i had to write snow in the snow, so you all know how freezing i am...

walking towards the train station i noticed that icicles have been forming...

kept on walking, see, leaves covered in snow...

i enjoy taking pictures of leaves and trees, something about the shape and form. nice yellow and orange leaves for you friends in cali who havent seen it in awhile or havent seen it at all...

i decided to take a stroll down an alley because i noticed the wall was covered in bright colors...upon my surprise...great graf...it was nice to see graf on street level, most art here is up where the skies the limit...on train level...good stuff...

after going to the liquor store to buy a morning snack...i met a friend along the way...he was very curious...and didnt have a problem stepping up to the camera...i can also say i'm the first human i know who has ever pet a squirrel!

well that was my morning thanksgiving adventure...i miss my family and friends, so i thought i would share the beautiu scenery of the morning snow...i hope everyone is having a great thanksgving!

last night was Marissa's birthday and ended up at the Ruby Room in north park for some art thing they do every monday...

myself and lee got this done for us...i felt bad we only tipped him a dollar...but we're grateful...

so here is the BATFACE187 VS. COCKFACE420 series...

step one...draw stencils and spend a lot of time cutting them out haha...

bat layer 1 after first spray...pretty intense cutting...both stencils took me about 5-6 hours to cut...

and so after a couple of days of cutting and building frames (24 in X 24 in)...here they are up close and awesome!

my stencil work had gotten pretty intense in almost the past 6 - 7 years...im pretty stoked on it...my collection is pretty big...and i'm stoked i work at a place where i can always work on more...

The label DeZordre Records finally presents its first official release with this first album mixed by Pan @ Point and produced mostly by dtracks instigator of the label, the cuts have been made by Dj Blatx. Having flooded the web for free mixtapes to make himself known, dtracks embarked on the production of this album consists of 16 tracks supported by the presence of international rappers, but back to the historic "Audioclockers.

First name "Audioclockers" comes directly from the film by Spike Lee himself inspired by the romance of a child of the Bronx, Richard Price. The "Clockers" These are small street dealers who sell crack, the devil in the ghetto, corner of "project", true dormitory to the American way in an atmosphere of daily survival. Our "Audioclockers" have therefore turned to the direction defined as the small dealers, the retailers who sell their raw sound to help us survive a little longer in the furnace which surrounds us.

The album drags us and to all stations of the "Underground Railroad" of music: jazz, soul, reggae, rock, drum and bass and electronica, this experimental sound while permitted by the azimuth existing machines. The fuel in this engine is an energy mainly hip-hop culture always Re-foundation of choice. Witness the first partner "dtracks" on this project namely DJ Blat X. This is a first step to saving that place inside of a hard rap DJ and his art, schratch this musical practice invented by the Hip-Hop.

The scratches of DJ X Blat are like razor strokes in the time that drive dances on the crackling melodies of rain "dtracks" and give the instrumental passages that so pleasurable drive intensity. for as much traveling as i did in 2008, i didnt too much street art...maybe its because when i was traveling i was doing music, but i guess that shouldnt matter, and i should eat my excuses...i didnt do any wheatpast in 2008, or stencil (unless it was for an art show) it was a heavy time for stickers...there were many more i did not take pictures of...but who has time to take a picture of every sticker you slap...these are for the quick get away...the ninja slap...

below was in front of the Press Club in Sacramento where the Burning of Rome had a gig...at some point in the night i stepped outside of the venue w/ Lee to get some fresh air and noticed 2 girls staring at this sticker...inside my head i started laughing...i turned back to Lee and before i knew it he started shouting "HEY! DONT TAKE THAT DOWN, HE JUST PUT THAT UP THERE!"haha she replied that she loved it and continued to try and rip the sticker off the pole...i was laughing, but Lee getting upset, says again, "yea but this guy is the guy who put that there!", i laughed again..and grabbed her the last sticker from my backpack...if i remember correctly her name was Lindsey and she worked at the upperplayground store in sacramento...i made 25 of these stickers, they wereall placed from Santa Cruz, San Fran, Sacramento, Berkley, and one rest on a canvas in San Jose.

there was a whole 200 + pictures or more of all the missions the travels, and along with the "studi0ne" sessions...unfortunatley this was the time period where my laptop took a crash and almost everything from these 2 years are gone forever...i stepped away from stencils, and during this time i was doing a lot of wheatpasting...much much more than the good ol frank...i wish i had more pictures of the Portland trip...that was the year i had over 50 hand painted records...and with the heaviest double stick tape i could find, i placed 50 painted records through-out the city...most of them were gone before the day was over...so i hope some of those records are resting nicely on somebody's wall...good times...i thought i slowed down...but now that i am thinking about it...it was prolly the busiest 2 years of street art...and the most travelnpaste...along w/ the first of many art shows...

wow, i cant believe stencilrevolution.com still had these archived from almost 6-7 years ago...these were the all or nothing days...and this wasnt even the begining, or the end, just a mere glimpse of what was happening...there was so much happening around this time, so much art moving...care free...from our own city, back to Long Beach, LA, SF, AZ, and back home again...there were so many more times, so many things never documented...before the frank, or the diamond...even before the flags, and uncle sam...care free...i remember what got me into this art was the amount of boredom i was undergoing in college...up till 4am partying...and the only thing i wanted to do was wait for everyone else to sleep, hop on a skateboard and hit up stencils...i didnt care about documenting anything then...and at the time...there wasnt much up. anywhere......memories...

today after the BBQ we went back to the SPEAKEASY studios...hands down the most unique and awesome studio in San Diego...maybe even the universe...and this is only the Control Room...(trust me, the place is a museum of awesome, and a great place to jam and play music)

such as the Lions and Tigers and Bears series, along with Lee's Custom "Speakeasy" drum head i painted...

the pool was so nice after the studio...the Jacuzzi put me into hibernation station mode.

lets start this blog out by saying FML! haha not really...
only sometimes...

sorry i havent been up to date...its been crazy since ive been back from Chicago...

i thought today my troubles of finding a job and being able to do full time Graphic Design was all about to go away...meaning, there was actually a point in my day where i thought "everything is working out right, i'll be up and running by tomorrow, no problems", i dunno why i thought today was going to be any different...and it wasnt...hopes smashed into the ground...and now all i want to do is traffic drugs for large amounts of money...so i can buy a new work station...

if you didnt know, ive been working like crazy to finish the Album layout for AspectOne's VIBEREADY. an instrumental album made to fit your daily routine...i was honored to be part of this project by helping out with a layout design, Aspect has always been one of my favorite cats from the LA area...

what was suppose to be a quick 4 hours project turned into a stressful 4 day project which was filled with a bunch of "error" reports, files not being able to save properly...and the computer constantly freezing or telling me there was not enough ram to support ADOBE and it had to automatically shut down...yea i was pretty stressed...nevertheless, it got done...and i managed to work through it...

here is also a preview for ANOTHER album, AspectOne will be releasing sooner than you think...back to back releases! the homie is mos def on a mission.

despite my computer problems and bullshit weekend of stress...i now feel a little release off my shoulders because the project is done...

thanks for checking out the blog as always...

and like i keep saying...sooner or later i will start keeping this updated as frequent as i use to...

an amazing weekend thats for sure...
sunday was pretty random and awesome...and we made Sunday the day for the letter "B", which in most cases is, Breakfast!

the Qwel show at the 8teen was fresh!,

nothin like a sunday afternoon hip hop show in the middle of North Park on a beautiful day...it was fun...it was followed by the BURNING OF ROME show only a block away...goodtimes!!!

today was a crazy monday...and have been at it with the movement since i woke up...
pretty much, woke up, computer labs, discussed business in 2 places, 1 of them being the speakeasy studios, then went to GK's house to record a new song...i feel good, but extremely done for...haha i needed it though...my brain isnt resting...

it's been so long since i have updated this...it's ok though, i only know a handful of people who actually like to see what i'm up to...i got my fore arm tatted last week...and i rarely show pictures of my tattoos, but this one is amazing...thanks to my friend Tod Bain, he's fresh...and i had to get some work from him before he moves to Texas...

i've also been getting my paint on here at work...trying to develop the skills that i have (which isnt much with painting)...

i did a show here last year, and the shop
has grown a bit since...they now have a gallery in the back, which at the moment is host to the "Weapons of Mass Construction" show ft. art by: Matthew Ryan Sharp & Project Detonate. The Gallery is where we did live painting, and live music ft. Generik & JamOne live on the beat box...Filf Dos w/ Jive Alive...and me...everyone rocked it, the Helmet Kids did some live painting, the whole thing was streaming live on the internet, and though there were only about 15-20 people @ the in-store, we had over 50 people watching the live stream online...

oh chicago you are cold...
today we went out kind of early to promote some flyers...
saw a bit of the city...still very much cold outside,
my nose feels like a zombie...

its very hard to stop and try to take pictures, when its freezing outside...

on our way back to Jive's for lunch i came across this stencil...

so i decided to sketch a silly squid...

when all else fails..scribble your way out with style...

later on in ther afternoon we rolled down to meet with the homie, from the Helmet Kids. a spacious flat where a few people lived, where they throw shows...jam, and chill...we were invited to help paint the walls of this place...it was nice to let go and get down on a wall for a few...it's been a long minute...its weird...spray paint is illegal in the city of chicago...

i started painted a half robot slash giant squid...i really hope i get to finish it this week...

now i'm maxin...with the cat.

CHICAGO!!!

this cat has been keeping me warm at night...

well i've been here since Thursday and i'm in love with Chicago's music scene...
the weather may be cold, but the people here are warm...Chi town mos def has one of the most diverse music scenes i have witnessed in almost all my travels...

THURSDAY

the first night i got here i had a chance to make my way to Quennect4 where Jive Alive is their resident DJ, 20h.x20kh is the name of this open mic...ft. over 30 bands, all different musical sty-lings, with at least 200 + people in the crowd at all times...unfortunately i did not have my camera, but it was an enjoyable experience...met plenty of great people...chi town definitely made me feel welcome and at home...mad love to CHICAGO!!! extra props to The Minneapolis Henry's, Blah Blah Blah's, Agents of Change, and Animated Individuals, great performances!

FRIDAY

The Windy City Winterball! last night we celebrated the release of 2 records...The Minneapolis Henrys, and Phillip Morris Album release Party...

we got there around 6pm, it was my first time being inside Subterranean also known as Sub-T...this place was a 3 story bar/venue...amazing. the first floor is "The Lounge" a bar with mellow music, and where you can order food...the second floor, is where the stage and dance floor are, along with a bar hugging the back wall...on the 3rd floor, one more bar towards the back, with an open birds eye view of the whole floor below, definitely a place to check out if youre ever in Chicago...

i was given the Honor to host the first half of the show where i Introduced the Dirty Diamonds...

the Dirty Diamonds...Jive likes to call it "Artsy Du wop" which i would agree...it was indie, electro, with dance beats, along with du wop style singing, very interesting something i have not witnessed or heard...so it was fresh to the ears...

next i introduced my fam, Phillip Morris, i have only seen Phillip Morris once, which was a year ago when we happened to come across him at an open mic at Q4, we kicked freestyles, and witnessed a short 2 song set, from there, we became "the Hooligans". i was stoked to finally see a full set, and by far my favorite set of the night...he kept the crowd hype, and his style is a bit new and refreshing than most "MC's" you hear these days...i highly enjoyed it...

after that, The Minneapolis Henrys!, i cant really begin to explain these guys style, their a little indie rock, a little rock n roll, with interesting time changes, and also a cello player...i first saw these guys on my last years trip to Chicago, and have been one of my favorites bands since...they definitely rocked out, and i'm very excited to have their new album...

to seal the deal on the night we had DarioX who is also the drummer for the band called the Blah Blah Blahs, he played an arrangement of beats, and Jive Alive ft. me! Artoo!, it was great...i had so much fun, and surprisingly the crowd was still very much alive and drinking...i performed a short remix set with Jive to close off the night...and everyone showed me love...when the show ended we walked out of Sub-T to snow falling from the sky...i dunno why but theres something about snow that just puts a huge smile on my face...

well, thats the adventure so far...
i will try to keep this updated as long as i am out here in Chicago...
i miss you all...and love you.

life is one.
today i didn't answer any phone calls.
i did send some text messages however.
but that doesn't matter.
i wanted to feel disconnected today...
not something new.
i love to observe.
dissect.
learn.
destroy.create.destroy.create.destroy.
it always ends on destroy.
sometimes it's a good thing.
snow stamps.

2 very simple things which make me happy.

Chicago today...i feel very accomplished.

pitch black and rain drops.
4runner in front of me battery dies.
back out of the drive thru.
drive to the otherside to jump the 4 runner.
drove home.

came inside to change.
realized i left my cell phone in my car.
says fuck it.
2 minutes later go out in the pitch black and rain drops to get phone in my boxers.
staring at my cluttered organization.
stared at my food.
don't want to eat it.
wrote a pointless blog.
missing a certain someone.
wishing it was july.
i want to kiss you in the rain.
only because i never have.
and always wanted to...
turducken sounds gross.
all i want is potatoes.
not casino.
i was away for thanksgiving last year.
ate an amazing dinner with thankful great friends.
enjoyed the snow. felt like home away from home.
now i'm home for thanksgiving.
and i fear waking up...and being alone.
no home cooked meals for me.

i havent even been using my camera.

the weekend was hectik...

on Thursday myself and the band The Burning Of Rome embarked on a trip to the Bay area to rock a show at the Erotic Exotic Expo in San Fran...pretty interesting weekend...i feel a bit desensitized, for a minute i felt sucked into this false reality of all things dirty...gross...still amazing though...

Thursday night we spent the night in Santa Cruz, always a great time in Santa Cruz...the weather was beautiful all weekend...

Friday we were finally in SF as we checked into our hotel room...it was on Folsom, pretty sweet hotel, and the majority of the Artist/Bands that played the expo all stayed in the same hotel...so it was a good time for debauchery...the actual show, was ok...unfortunatley i managed to delete all my pictures from the first two nights...(still bummed out), the city was great...we partied until the wee hours of the night i was drinking white russians...and wandering the city with marker in hand...it was not good...the highlight of the night...hanging out with Heather from "Rock of Love" haha...no joke...most hilarious event the whole weekend...haha

Saturday was pretty much the same, getting the full amount of rock star partying while we were away for the weekend...the actual Ball was CRAZY!, full v.i.p. treatment, where i have to give much love and respects to Laurie our "Hospitality Manager", she was legit, filled with giving us free liquor...and awesomeness.

the weekend summed up into one tiny blog...heres what i failed to mention, but will be revised later when i can upload more pictures...using blueblocker glasses as a camera filter = awesome, traveling and eating at the local Cafe's = awesome, chillin with Jonsie and Franky = awesome, tone loc = nowhere to be found, ordering white russians and going to the store to buy the bartender half and half = amazing...haha yea, like i said...i'll cover all this later...
